Emergency lighting - Do you carry out the drop test after replacing a light or replacing batteries

Good Morning

Just interested in what other organisations do to full fill the requirement to carry out a 3hr (if that what the design is) drop test after installing/replacing an emergency light. BS5266:1:2016 part 13.2 states if replacing a battery; after replacement and at least 24hr on charge, the luminaire should be retested/tested to check that the duration has been restored to the system design requirements.

So after replacing a light fitting are you waiting 24hrs then raising a job to return and carry out this test, or are you just not doing this ?

How soon after fitting the light do you carry this test out.

I would welcome any ideas

  • When  the customer has  reported this after failing their reguar test, as part of the ' there you are all fixed now' hand over,  "and now you can retest and get in touch if there are any further issues." i.e. they test it.
