Protected corridors and ELV cabling

Hi, Does anyone know whether the 422.2.1 requirements for compliance with BS EN 60332-3 fire propagation (bunched cables) also applies to ELV cables including cat 6 cables or is is this requirement limited to LV cable?

  • Worth checking/specifiying the cat6 is LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) as normal cat 5 or 6 cable can be PVC sheath.  If you burn a piece of PVC cat6 cable it lets out nasty black smoke which is acrid.  Some will also let out Hydrogen Chloride gas which when mixed with water gives you Hydrochloric Acid

Remember LSF(Low Smoke Fume) is not the same as LSZH
