Canal Boat Cable

What two core cable should be used for the DC wiring on a canal boat? As far as I can see, the only requirement in the IET On-Board Guide is that it should, as a minimum, comply with IEC 60332-1. I cannot seem to find a two core flex with red and black cores that complies with IEC 60332-1.

  • What do you mean by "Thinwall"?

It's a type of cable with thinner, but higher specification, insulation - mostly used for ELV in automotive sector (cars, caravans, boats etc.) as it's thinner (so harness are significantly less bulky), lighter, and usually has better temperature and chemical resistance performance than "normal" PVC types. Sometimes you see reduced c.s.a. versions (e.g. 2.0mm² instead of 2.5mm²) which take advantage of the better temperature ratings to provide even more reduction in size/weight (although with cost of higher voltage drop of course).
