Resistance per metre value for 25mm meter tails?

what is the resistance per metre value for 25mm meter tails? I have 2 rolls of old colour meter tails and would like to work out how many meteres there are on each roll without physically unrolling and measuring with a tape! A simple end to end measurement with a ohm meter would be much quicker.

many thanks in advance

  • If the rolls are still well (densely) round on a reel/drum, could you not estimate the lengths by measuring the reel and roll depth? (Obviously if there isn't a drum you might get a reasonable estimate) by pretending there is). Still only an estimate but may more accurate than measuring.

Don't have the formula to hand but will pop it up later when I have found it.

If the last layer isn't full you'll need to estimate (by wrapping a tape around may be quickest) the "missing" length.

Yes, there's a neat bit of maths on spirals (arc length proportional to the number of turns and pitch) that can be used to achieve that.

Quality control experts in the paper industry use this, when they have established the pitch from a particular paper machine.
