I would gather that a plug in solar appliance will need it's own standard anyway which provides for safety and takes precedence over BS 7671.
The big one back to BS 7671 would be the recent content on bi-directonal devices. But if the truth be told that's just a solution to the manufacturers failing to read the upstream MIs from the sensor chip manufacturers - hence virtually all new RCBOs are bi-directonal.
And of course issues to do with overload protection on 32A ring finals.
That kind of font, I'm led to understand, is not good for readability, for example if one is dyslexic. So the ability to present the standard in a way that improves readability is, quite possibly, a great improvement?
I mostly use the Vitalsource because it's a lot more accessible than my crumpled up hardcopy.
But I've found the rendering is going all over the place. Especially when I open the GNs - one day I'm getting the page as it looks in hard copy and the next I'm getting just text with tables unreadable.
I'm not sure if something I'm doing wrong.
Now sans-serif fonts are dominant.
Agh, the business pretty, rounded characters, block aligned, all 'design', no content, style...
'1Il' and 'O0' confusions (and that's just ASCII, never mind Unicode look-alikes)
upstream MIs from the sensor chip manufacturers
I though it was a 'design'/circuit configuration issue in the main, and there was no upstream sensor chip that said something different. The design didn't include switching off of the 'sense'/test line after tripping in a 'reversed' operation.
Any extra info on such upstream sensor chip limitations?
Not if you are north of the border - scroll about half way down under "Typeface". It is well-established that dyslexia is not a visual problem.
I think that it is all about fashion - TNR used to be the preferred font for newspapers (obviously) and official documents. Now sans-serif fonts are dominant. The problem for me is distinguishing between lower case lima and upper case india (lI) as opposed to (lI).
I don't quite read it the same. Yes, it says fonts aren't the whole story, but then under 'typeface' goes on to provide good practice to selecting and using 'more suitable' fonts ...
There's this too: www.dyslexiauk.co.uk/.../
Do we know who will be delivering it please? (The postman has already been today.)
Mine's just arrived - delivered by UPS.
- Andy.
So UPS just delivered my updated BS7671 publication. Despite ordering it in advance months ago, and notification earlier this week its on its way. Its taken that wee bit longer to make its way up north to Loch Lomond side!! frustrating others on the forum had delivery far earlier.
Then again, given it was a Electric vehicle van that delivered it and not a ICE one, I just put it down to the number of times the van had to stop and charge to get all the way here.
Anyway it certainly is Orange.
Cheers GTB

The brown van arrived here on the very sunny south coast just before lunch.
I agree rather disappointing. Did others get them from 3rd party vendors more quickly?

The Dutch would love it. :-)
I am surprised how much GN3 has expanded.
I am surprised how much GN3 has expanded.
There are fewer pages than the 2022 9th Edition (197 in 2022, 189 in 2026).
The guidance on the forms that is in Appendix 6 of BS 7671 has not been duplicated in GN3 (because it doesn't really add anything), although the guidance remains for the Generic Schedules of Circuit Details and Test Results, as this is not in BS 7671.
We're about to take you to the IET registration website. Don't worry though, you'll be sent straight back to the community after completing the registration.
