The NSW and Capital Territory Local Network is led by local volunteers who come together to organise lectures and technical visits that provide opportunities to learn and meet new people. All events are open to the public and most are free of charge.

The Local Network aims to raise awareness of science, engineering and technology in the local area, and promote membership of the IET.

An amazing line of speakers from Sydney Metro and HSRA for our annual award dinner 'The new Sydney Airport and connecting Sydney Metro Enhancing Lives Presentation Evening' hosted by IET New South Wales Local Network. It's a great opportunity to hear about the future of transportation across NSW!

Our first speaker is Jeremy Parkinson, Director Government Engagement at Sydney Metro. With extensive expertise in infrastructure and transport policy, Jeremy has played a pivotal role in shaping the transportation landscape of Sydney, including the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney International Airport project!

Our esteemed panel of industry experts is Tim Parker, Chief Executive Officer of the High Speed Rail Authority. With over thirty years of experience in mega projects and a proven track record in delivering complex infrastructure projects, Tim will share his invaluable insights and experiences on shaping Sydney's transportation landscape. Tim’s notable mega-project experience includes Hong Kong International Airport, Epping to Chatswood Rail Link, Sydney’s new Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour, Northconnex and Sydney Metro.

Sydney Metro Train Facility (South) Site Tour hosted by IET New South Wales Network and RTSA

Our first in person event for 2023 was a huge success!  Thanks to our partners RTSA for co-hosting and organising. We had 35 engineers join us on-site at the Sydney Metro Trains Facility South in Marrickville for a tour of where the trains will be stabled and maintained overnight as part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project.
