The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Brunei Darussalam Network held its 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Saturday, 28th October 2017 at Li Gong Restaurant, The Empire Hotel and Country Club, Kampong Jerudong. The AGM received the Chairman’s Report for the Session 2016/2017 and the audited account for the Session 2016/2017 from the Honorary Treasurer.  In the AGM, the new Office Bearers, Management Committee Members and Auditors for the term 2017/2018 were elected.

The new management committee is comprised of professionals from both the government and private institutions.  Lt Col (U) Schufin bin Hj Brahim from Royal Brunei Armed Forces has been elected as the Honorary Chairman for the new management committee.  Also elected was Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar from the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) as Honorary Vice Chairman, Muhd Aminuddin bin Mohd. Yussof as the Honorary Secretary and Major Wan Farhan bin Hj Ibrahim from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces as the Honorary Assistant Secretary, while Pg Hj Masle bin Pg Hj Hamid continue as the Honorary Treasurer.  

 
Other committee members are Simon Leong Kian Ann, Dr. Tang Shi Siong, Hj Amrinal bin Hj Amir, Ong Boon Jing, Supatra Lee, Zainidi Hj Abd Hamid, Lt. Nurul Khartini, Dr William Voon and Lim Sam Lee. Gregorio Parayno and Too Tuck Choy were also elected to become the auditors for 2017/2018.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community. The IET has more than 150,000 members in 127 countries and offices in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.


In the AGM, the Honorary Chairman reiterated the vision and mission of IET and what the IET Brunei Local Network stood for. The IET Brunei sets its vision in sharing and advancing knowledge throughout the global Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) community contributing towards national development.  With a mission among others, is to establish a culture of professionalism highly valued and appreciated by all in Brunei Darussalam. Increased membership and collaboration with relevant stakeholders will be key success factors in achieving this mission. The Chairman reported the IET Brunei membership with a total of 175 member.

 
The 2016/2017 session marked several milestones and achievements in promoting IET to the public in general, industry and the government sectors. Of particular highlight was we using social media to disseminate our event and activities, using facebook under the IET Brunei Network, Technical Visit to Sinar Suria MC Biotech Sdn Bhd that produce algae for health product, Technical Visit to Simpor Pharma Sdn Bhd that produce health supplement, Technical Visit to Meteorological Department Ministry of Communications, Talks on Brunei Architects, Professional Engineers and Quantity Surveyor Order 2011 (BAPEQS), organised Present Around The World competition, organised Faraday’s Challenge that attract 201 students to participate from 12 schools, actively giving presentation to Government Schools on Engineering with a total of 759 students attended, charity work by IET Politeknik Brunei on Campus and also participate as a judge in the BICTA Competition 2017 co-organised by Ministry of Communications, Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) and Infocomm Federation Brunei (IFB). This year IET Brunei Network Chairman presented the Brunei Network Activities in the Communities Volunteer Conference (CVC) held in Auckland, New Zealand.

 
The AGM ended with an interesting and informative technical talk entitled “Your Behavioral, Your Safety. You Will Go Home Safely” by Johnny Yap, HSE Coach (SEA).
