Marta received her master’s degree from AGH University of Science and Technology in Poland. She obtained her PhD in 2020 at Imperial College London under the supervision of Prof Nina Thornhill and Dr Charlotte Skourup from ABB in Oslo. During her studies, she spent 20 months with ABB in Oslo, the industrial partner of her PhD.
Marta is currently a Research Associate at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London. Her interests lie in optimisation and control of industrial systems, focusing in particular on the intersection between applications and theory.
Marta’s thesis provides original insights on the integration of degradation models into process control applications. The thesis develops an adaptive algorithm for degradation detection and prediction in turbomachinery. The thesis proposes two frameworks for load-sharing in a compressor station in which the compressors are subject to degradation. The approaches have been evaluated with case studies developed in collaboration with industrial partners. In her work, Marta also discussed steps and directions for future work to facilitate the technology transfer from academic to industrial implementation.
Looking forward to seeing all the applicants for our 2020 competition when it launches later in 2021.
