Noel Sharkey is an IET Fellow, Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics and Public Engagement University of Sheffield.



He is Chair elect of the International Committee for Robot Arms Control and an advocate at the UN. Noel is a principle spokesperson for a large international coalition of NGOs: the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots.



He is also co-director of the Foundation for Responsible Robotics which concretizes ethical issues in robotics. But Noel is best known to the public as head judge in every series of BBC’s Robot Wars.


Noel will be launching his very own award at the Engineering Festival - The award will be for Best Robot Wars Female Role Model and will highlight the efforts made by women to promote engineering through robotics.  This award is sponsored by Mentorn Scotland, the IET Women's Network and is in association with Responsible Robotics.
