FIRST® LEGO® League nurtures the next generation of engineers and innovators. Exposure to programmes like this is essential—sometimes a single event can transform a young person’s career path.

As a child, Louise dreamed of many careers—scientist, artist, firefighter—all in the same week. At 13, she entered the Faraday Challenge still undecided, unaware it would shape her future. The theme was Coding the Future, and her team created a relaxation and reflex app using a BBC micro:bit. Louise led the paperwork but froze during the presentation—until a teammate’s encouraging smile helped her push through.

Inspired, she co-founded a computing club to explore STEM subjects. She also volunteered at science clubs and supported junior computing classes at her school.

By the end of 2022, Louise had completed her Advanced Highers and was preparing to study Computing at Abertay University, with a dream of teaching secondary school students. Her passion for education had grown from discovering tech during high school—a turning point that transformed computing from a hobby into a career path. Earlier that year, she and her friend were nominated for a BAFTA YGD award, an experience that reinforced her determination to keep pursuing tech.

The Faraday Challenge wasn’t just a competition—it was the milestone that sparked her confidence, ambition, and love for computing.
