If you’re not familiar with this event, it is an open call for research on all topics relating to the fields of antennas, wireless and electromagnetics. It is a jointly hosted event from the Antennas and Propagation, RF and Microwave and Electromagnetic networks. The broad topic range means last week (8th June) we were treated to a number of interesting talks on a wide variety of subjects. There were a lot of Q&A’s throughout the day both after the talks and during the networking sessions.

In the morning we heard from Yue Gao, from Queen Mary University of London, whose talk was entitled ‘Sub-Nyquist Spectrum Sensing at TV White Space’. It included a look at the Ofcom database and there was a lively Q&A after.
The event wasn’t just about the academic. We had a good showing from industry as well, including Chris Davenport from Rolls Royce UK on ‘Wireless Sensor Networks and Energy Harvesting in Rolls-Royce’
After lunch Geraldine R Rimven from the University of Hull, demonstrated the variety of this event with her talk on ‘Prediction of One-Minute Rain Rate Distributions from Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM)’
Peter Alizadeh from Queen Mary University of London, discussed the field of biochemistry in use for things from airport security to sensors in his talk on ‘Active Quasi-Optics for High-Power THz Science’Thanks to those you attended the event, to our speakers, James and Anil for their hard work in organising this event and to Loughborough London for hosting us. We are already planning next year’s event and as traditional will be on the road again – please let us know any suggestions for future locations in the comments!
