It is with immense pride and gratitude that I reflect on my recent honour as a finalist for The Paul Fletcher Medal at the prestigious IET Achievement Awards 2024. Held at the iconic Savoy Place in London, this event celebrated leaders in engineering from around the world, and it was a humbling, unforgettable experience to hear my name announced on such a global stage.
Recognizing My IET Journey and Dedication to Engineering Excellence
This recognition reflects not only my dedication to advancing engineering and technology but also my commitment to fostering a thriving, inclusive community within the IET. Over the years, I have been deeply involved in several initiatives to build a supportive, innovative environment for aspiring engineers. Here are some highlights of my journey:
-
Establishing IET On Campus Chapters: As part of my mission to create a culture of innovation and collaboration, I led the establishment of IET On Campus chapters across multiple universities. These chapters provide students with a unique platform to explore their interests in engineering, gain valuable insights from industry professionals, and become part of the IET community.
-
Promoting Membership Growth and Professional Development: Through impactful awareness sessions and strategic advocacy, I’ve been able to significantly raise awareness about the importance of IET memberships. I believe in the power of the IET network to empower young engineers, and I work to make it accessible and appealing to students.
-
Volunteering as an International Professional Registration Advisor (IPRA): I am committed to supporting the professional growth of engineers globally. As the Youngest International Professional Registration Advisor in Sri Lanka, I provide guidance to young engineers pursuing professional registrations, helping them navigate the path to fulfilling careers.
Heartfelt Thanks to My Mentors and Supporters, This milestone would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my mentors, senior members, and fellows from both the IET Sri Lanka and the IET Young Professionals - Sri Lanka Network. Their guidance has been invaluable throughout my journey, and I extend my deepest gratitude to each of them for believing in my potential.
A special thanks goes out to the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for hosting such an unforgettable ceremony at Savoy Place. Events like these reinforce the IET's commitment to celebrating and nurturing the next generation of engineers, and I am grateful to be part of such a forward-thinking organization.
As I look ahead, I am filled with excitement to continue pushing boundaries, building connections, and advancing the field of engineering with the same passion and dedication that brought me here.
