The Healthcare Technology Network's 2014-15 program commences this month but first I would like to take the opportunity to look back over the events that the network has supported this summer.



One of our aims as a network has been to produce quality content from our supported events and I am pleased to say that we have achieved this with the events listed below.

This event took place in London alongside parallel events in France (Paris) and the US (Cambridge, MA).



The idea was to bring together healthcare providers with data scientists to answer clinically-relevant questions over the course of a weekend.

The 8th international conference promoting access to healthcare through technology took place from 17 - 18 September 2014 in London.



This two day conference brought together healthcare technologists, clinicians, researchers and public bodies from around the world to explore effective engineering solutions to meet the healthcare problems in low resource settings.



The Healthcare TPN spoke to 3 of the keynote speakers and these videos are available to view online.

An evening of lectures was hosted by the IET South Wales Local Network in association with the HTN and MediWales. Nicholas Sleep (CTO of MedaPhor) and Tracy Wotherspoon (Senior Electronic Design Engineer, MicroSemi Semiconductor Ltd) gave fascinating talks and demonstrations of virtual reality ultrasound training simulators and in-body wireless communications respectively.

The HealthTech conference was held in Beijing on September 26, 2014, during which more than 100 experts from domestic and foreign enterprises, academic circles, government agencies, charity organizations and medical institutions related to the

medical health technologies discussed about the medical health technology most suitable for China, and put forward many constructive suggestions on the development of the medical technology in future.



The conference was hosted by IET, and sponsored by ARM and Neusoft.

IET TPN Day

On 12 September 2014, volunteers from the IET Technical and Professional Networks (TPNs) came together to discuss their future in the context of wider issues facing engineering institutions. The Healthcare TPN were invited to talk about the collaboration between the HTN and IET Beijing which led to the HealthTech China Conference. Videos of the presentations are available online.

This will be given by Anil Vaidya whose SCANurse team have been short-listed for the Qualcomm Tricorder X-Prize



Alberta Bioengineering Conference October 24-26 2014, Banff

The HTN are a conference sponsor and will have a representative on-hand throughout the event to publicise the work of the IET and HTN. We look forward to contributing to the first of many events in Canada.



8th International Conference on Ubiquitous Computing & Ambient Intelligence (UCAmI 2014) & 6th International Work-conference on Ambient Assisted Living (IWAAL 2014) - (UCAml/ IWAAL) 2-5 December, Belfast

The HTN is sponsoring a session, to include invited speaker Dr Michael Taylor, Chairman of AbilityNET



In 2015, the HTN is preparing to host an event on medtech start-ups in February, featuring high profile speakers from medical device development, regulatory and venture capital backgrounds.



2015 IET/ IMechE Joint Annual Prestige Lecture on Biomedical Engineering is to be held in London on the early evening of 14th April 2014. This year's speaker will be Dr David Delpy, formerly CEO of EPSRC.



Looking further ahead into 2015, planning is well underway for a joint event with the Royal Society of Medicine themed around Machine Learning in Biomedicine. There are still opportunities to present at and sponsor this event so please get in touch if you would like to do so.
