It is a great privilege to chair the Institution of Engineering and Technology in the East Midlands.  The East Midlands Network has strong links with local academic institutions, businesses and

professional organisations across the region.

Being a member of the IET offers lifelong benefits, from support and advice to those just starting their engineering career, to mentoring towards professional registration. Others may seek the assistance of IET Connect or access to an international network of professionals and immense centre of knowledge, to name a few.

Our Young Professionals Section offers excellent support to those new to industry. For the more established engineer, the East Midlands Engineering and Science Professionals (EMESP) has cultivated a network across the engineering spectrum throughout the area and strong partnerships exist between the IET and other professional institutions.

Increasing and strengthening these relationships is key to the growth, sustainability and professional development of the IET and I would urge everybody to support the Institution, and each other. Whether that be attending or organising an event, interacting with local businesses, volunteering or just meeting another member for a coffee because you’re in the area. It is, after all, the actions of the individual members that enable the IET and all it stands for, to exist in the first place.

My personal aim is to further develop our partnerships with the local universities and educational establishments. I firmly believe that if we inspire and motivate those young people yet to choose engineering as a career, then we can open the door to a rewarding career, continued professional and personal development, lifelong friends and the support of the IET and its members.

On behalf of the Committee, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to our new members and thank the existing members for their continued support and we look forward to meeting you in the future.

Jonathan Bramley, IET East Midlands Chairman
