Hope Oharisi is a Civil Engineer who majors in infrastructure planning and design, he is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, a member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers and a registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) This webinar focuses on software applications use for designing, drafting and modelling and the opportunities they present to engineering and technology professionals, before now designing, drafting and modelling has been done manually by engineering and technology professionals this is very cumbersome, tasking and time consuming, it means one has to manually calculate by writing so many papers and draw diagrams on paper to represent these calculations, the end result is that there is a lot of delay in project design and further much delay in total project delivery, proper documentation and project monitoring/control will be absent.
The advent of the computer in the 20th century has led to the development of so many software applications used today for designing, drafting and modelling, this has opened up a lot of opportunities for engineering and technology professionals both in the development and usage of these softwares.
Software development is a huge field that can accommodate a lot of computer engineers, computer scientist and programmers today, software application usage for designing drafting and modelling is equally a huge field that has accommodated a great number of engineering and technology professionals ranging from Engineers of different disciplines, technicians, technologist, Architects, Surveyors, Computer scientist, Earth scientist, Chemist, Physicist the list goes on. It logically follows that a good knowledge of software development is a huge employability skill, an excellent knowledge of software applications for designing, drafting and modelling is equally a great employability skill, such knowledge can also position one to be a freelancer, a consultant and an entrepreneur.
We will look at some commercially available software for designing, drafting and modelling and their specific usages.
