Congratulations to Muhammad Rashid.Rashid who was awarded the IET Brunei LN best student award for his outstanding performance during his studies at Politeknik Brunei. He was the top graduating student within the Electrical and Electronics Engineering programmes. Rashid is also a key person in the development of an energy efficient car build which was used for the Shell Eco Marathon competition in Singapore.

Shell Eco-marathon is a competition for students who are passionate about developing innovative mobility solutions. It challenges engineering, design, science and technology students to design, build and drive the world’s most energy-efficient vehicle. In 2018, the Politeknik Brunei team competed the Prototype Battery Electric category – a futuristic and highly aerodynamic vehicles. The team had to pass an intensive safety and technical inspection before they are allowed to race on the track. The race consists of six attempts, where in each attempt, the team must run their vehicle under 25 minutes and 9 laps equivalent to 10.07km in total. The race aim is to run the vehicle with the less amount of energy consumed per race.

During the whole weekend, Politeknik Brunei team (Polybrusem) managed to make use all the six attempts. On the final day, polybrusem managed to set a new benchmark and also breaks their own record from 84km/kWh last year to 117km/kWh this year, with the ranking of 10th out of 26 participating battery electric prototype vehicle. This also makes Politeknik Brunei the top in Brunei team in terms of efficiency and ranking.

This is an outstanding achievement and IET BRUNEI is proud to be associated with the team as one of the sponsor. Well done Rashid.
