UTT Student, Mr. Pradesh Boodoosingh recognised by IET UK for outstanding engineering talent!


Mr. Pradesh Boodoosingh, imminent graduate of the Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Utilities Engineering - Mechanical Option at The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), has been recognised for his hard work by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) UK and has been awarded the IET Prize 2020.  This prize is awarded every year to outstanding students who are doing or have completed an IET accredited university course.  Prize winners are nominated by their universities based on having shown distinction in their course leading to the award of a first degree. 



Mr. Boodoosingh joined the B.A.Sc. in Utilities Engineering - Mechanical Option programme as a full-time student in 2017. He excelled in his programme, displaying qualities of discipline, commitment, ambition, innovation and excellent leadership skills. He is an exceptional UTT student and ambassador who has represented the University impressively at IET events, both locally and internationally. 



Mr. Boodoosingh is the current UTT IET On-Campus Community Vice-Chair and Treasurer.  IET On-Campus is an initiative run by students, for students, giving them the skills and experience they need to succeed in their future careers.  It is funded and backed by the IET.  He is also an Executive Member of IET Trinidad and Tobago.



In May 2019, shortly after becoming an On-Campus student member, Mr. Boodoosingh won the local leg of the IET Present Around the World (PATW) Competition with his research and presentation on ‘The Ethics and AI of Autonomous Vehicles using Neural Networks in Decision Making’He received a cash prize and a certificate.  In August of that same year, he went on to place second in the North American leg of the competition in San Diego, where he also received a cash prize and a certificate.  As stated by the IET, "he presented a range of scenarios which left the audience questioning their own morals and judgments and asking how we will choose to apply these so that autonomous vehicles can make real-time decisions". PATW encourages young professionals and students within the engineering field to develop and showcase their presentation skills. 



Subsequent to those events, the IET invited Mr. Boodoosingh to attend the IET Communities Committee-Americas (CC-A) Conference in Houston, USA, where he met and networked with representatives and groups from the America, Canada, France, Bermuda and other countries.  At the Conference, he spoke on ‘How the IET could better serve its members’. The CC-A is responsible for the delivery of all IET member activities throughout North America, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Greenland.



In February 2020, he was again invited by the IET, along with forty-nine (49) other IET Young Professional (YP) volunteers from around the world, to attend the IET’s bi-annual Young Professionals Community Committee Conference (YPCVC) in Bangalore, India.  He spoke on Solutions to North London’s Flooding Problem’ as part of a group presentation with other new international members.  



As part of his prize, Mr. Boodoosingh will receive a certificate and two years’ free membership with IET.  Here is his statement of appreciation for the award:



'I am very honoured and excited to be awarded the IET Student Prize.  Over the years of my degree I have studied very hard and worked on many challenging and unique projects. I feel very humbled to know that my work during this degree has been recognised and awarded with this IET Student Prize'.
