A brand new event organised and co-hosted by Cyber Security Challenge UK and the IET that showcased the amazing careers on offer within the Cyber Security industry. You had the chance to select visiting slots specific to your own cyber preferences, the day long event allowed you to connect with potential employers and industry contacts who were there to help you better identify what your specialisms within Cyber Security might be.

Ahmed Kotb, IT & Communications Lead for the Strategic & Engagement and Partnerships team at the IET, and the main organiser of the event, said: “Cyber security is such an important topic, which affects all aspects of our lives at home, work and play. We put this day on to showcase the opportunities to a broad mix of people from all walks of life, from those at school, college and university students to career changers and experienced professionals, and we were pleased with the mix of attendees throughout the day.”

The excitement around Cyber Security was obvious throughout the day, exhibitors were genuinely taking the time to demonstrate their different cyber maturity models and how virtually anyone can adapt their non technical skills into Cyber Security. The day finished with a panel session which covered more discussions than just the below:

  • Certification Vs Academics

  • Cyber Skills Vs Role Requirements

  • Cyber Business Speak

Choosing the theme of Cyber Insurance, I took opportunity to ask Sam Carter who also hosted a session within the Speakers Corner on why Cyber Insurance has become a trending topic, he discussed that, if Space travel can be insured then so can cyber - it’s a positive. Insuring the known unknowns of space exploration is as valid as insuring against the known unknowns of Cyber Security. Similarly, Steve Cull further discussed that based off different cyber specialisms, an organisation needs to be sure on how they define Cyber Insurance depending on their organisations assurance model.

During the panel discussion, Jane Frankland spoke about how her varied cyber experiences provided opportunity for her to become a key influencer within the industry, whilst other speakers Lucy Chaplin, David Savage, David Barker and Alison Dyer discussed that for certification, there is no one size that fits all so a preferred way to select a cyber certification is to choose an area of Cyber Security that matches your core skills as one of many methods to enter the industry.

This was a quality event that let you create your own schedule, speak one on one with company representatives, attend the speakers corner and gave opportunity to network - giving the event a very Cyber Summit feel.
