 Highlights
The 3D’s of the energy system transition - Decentralisation, Decarbonisation and Digitalisation – are driving an unprecedented global shift in the way we generate and consume energy, which has yielded major implications for the processes and operations of the incumbent operators, particularly within the UK. Tackling the challenges of providing a secure and cost efficient energy supply to customers, in the face of facilitating the connection of more and more intermittent generation and increasingly dynamic loads, has led to a focus on moving towards system operation at lower voltage levels. Digital technology, backed by regulation, has enabled new opportunities which give options to network operators to adapt their operating models to become more dynamic and responsive to the needs of customers, but there is still a long way to go in ensuring the future energy mix and diversification of load profiles does not adversely impact the security of supply which we have all become accustomed too. This talk will focus on discussing some of the technologies which are supporting the transition to a more digitalized system and aim to answer the question “what is Digitalisation really??”
