Professor Dr. Arvind Kumar presented his views and thoughts on Nuclear engineering applications to an audience of IET members and other invited scientists and engineers.  The talk covered a wide spectrum of applications in the diverse areas of nuclear power, naval propulsion, nuclear medicine, national security, space exploration, and industrial applications such as measurement of fluid levels in sealed systems, neutron radiography of explosives, oil well logging, etc.  While focusing on the engineering aspects, Prof Kumar also addressed some of the safety concerns that are attributed to any mention of nuclear power.

Prior to the main talk, we were impressed by the talent of Nicholas Rajan, a local young potential engineer, who gave a 10 minute presentation on a design and implementation of a ‘boom box’ that met sound quality, power, aesthetics and cost targets. He is willing to become a student member of the IET.

The meeting was well attended by both members and guests and provided the NorCal committee with the opportunity to talk about how to get involved with the NorCal Chapter and the importance of Present Around The World competition within the IET.
