I attended the subject event by formal invitation on the 10th September at Liberty Steel in Rotherham

The event has been set up by Work-Wise annually for the past few years, inviting employers and guest speakers to cover topics of interest.

This time the guest  presenters were Mick Hood Director of HR at Liberty Speciality Steels and Lt Col Andrew Black 4th Infantry Brigade -Head of Engagement for the Army in the NE region.

Mick Hood covered the current profile of how Liberty Speciality Steel has now been segmented into the divisions across their business (which can all be found online for more details)

Lt Col Black gave an enlightening presentation about the Army and its ongoing initiative on their Community and School Outreach and should anyone be interested in this, I can send a  pdf of the scope of this initiative but sadly due to the limitations of this Blog site it will not accept pdf's for me to attach the detailed file!!

Their outreach scheme looks excellent and encourages youngsters to come along and engage in a portfolio of activities which are primarily about engagement and recruitment into the Army BUT also gives them a set of skills to consider if they choose to go elsewhere out into the 'world of work' generally.

Work-Wise over-viewed their 'Employer Apprentice Support Service' and the IET SYLN 'Innovation Challenge' which embraces schools and manufacturers in the SY region in a 'maker' related activity which are then judged and awards given at the GUTS event each year at 'Magna' based in Rotherham,

All credit once again to John Barber and Janice Richardson at 'Work-Wise' for setting up this event and for the invitation to the IET SYLN to attend.
