Our Young Professionals Committee (YPC) recently gathered in Glasgow for its inaugural in-person meeting of this current session.

Our 13 committee members are dedicated volunteers from all around the globe, all sharing a common enthusiasm, expertise and determination to enhance the appeal of the engineering and technology sector for aspiring professionals.

As the Young Professionals Coordinator and Secretary for the Committee, it was my responsibility to bring together our committee members for a productive weekend.

The planning started many months beforehand. Once the location had been decided by the staff team, I researched suitable meeting venues and hotels in the city and managed all of the logistics that comes with bringing together a group of volunteers and colleagues. There’s always a lot of work and planning that takes place behind the scenes to ensure everything runs without a hitch.

Across the weekend itself, the YPC looked at a wide range of topics relating to Technical Networks, social media engagement, apprentice and student membership, as well as much more.

Our YPC is full of members who are passionate about ensuring that institutions like ours are still relevant in the future and the committee had an amazing time together. It was an opportunity for everyone to finally meet each other in person, while also achieving productive outcomes during our discussions and workshops.

For me, the weekend consisted of making sure everything ran smoothly and on time. Making sure committee members knew where they needed to be and when, recording the meeting minutes to share with those that couldn’t attend, arranging evening meals for each day and helping with any questions or queries.

I was really pleased with how the weekend went – everyone arrived safely to Scotland and enjoyed their time together.

If you’d like to see who is currently on the committee or what it has worked on over the years, take a look at our website. Or email youngprofessionals@theiet.org to talk about how the YPC could support any projects you’re working on.

With two meetings now under my belt, I can’t wait to start planning our next one (which will take place sometime in 2024) in the New Year!
