The Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) was announced by the Prime Minister at the 2016 CBI Annual Conference, and further detail of this new cross-disciplinary fund was included in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement as part of the National Productivity Investment Fund.

Innovate UK and the Research Councils are beginning to define a first round of challenges to be addressed by the ISCF, and will soon be in a position to seek input from industry and the research base into their development.

To gather input from industry and the research base, the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) is organising a series of short workshops across the UK in the second half of January for innovators and researchers to engage with Innovate UK and the Research Councils and share your thoughts on what the challenges might be.

Why is this important?
Innovate UK and the Research Councils recognise that it is vital to seek the views of UK industry and researchers as part of shaping the development of draft industrial challenges for the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

Why should you attend?
This will be a valuable opportunity for you to help shape some of the key industrial challenges that, if addressed by the ISCF, could help deliver jobs and economic growth across the UK. Events will be held across the UK and are not specific to any technology or industry sector and we are looking to attract a wide range of participants and viewpoints.

Where will the workshops take place?

There will be eight half-day briefings and workshops taking place across the UK in the last two weeks of January:
  • Mon, 16 Jan – Southampton

  • Tue, 17 Jan - Glasgow

  • Wed, 18 Jan – London

  • Fri, 20 Jan - Leeds

  • Tue, 24 Jan – Liverpool

  • Wed, 25 Jan – Cardiff

  • Thu, 26 Jan - Belfast

  • Thu, 26 Jan - Birmingham

How to register your interest:

You can register your interest in attending one of the ISCF workshops via this link:

Please note that registering interest is not a guarantee of a place at the workshops as we wish to ensure a good mix of sectors, technologies and types of organisation. Also, we are expecting interest for the London event to be very high and will be likely to disappoint some people who wish to attend this event, so if you are able to attend at another location then please register for those if you can.

We hope you will be keen to contribute your knowledge, experience and insights to the development of transformative challenges. Many thanks if you have already expressed an interest and we expect to be confirming places at the briefings from Wednesday 11th January.
