2 minute read time.
They say the best things in life are free,  but how many things do we actually get for free these days without there being a catch? We always end up reading the small print only to find that free doesn’t actually mean free.

So when you hear the IET offer free training, you’ll probably want to know more before you sign up.

Where’s the catch? Well, there isn’t one.  The IET do offer free training sessions.

We offer 15 different bite sized topics to provide you with key Lifeskills that you can use in both the workplace and in your personal lives.

Many of us want to progress in our careers and better ourselves. Often, key skills are needed in order for you to move forward or remain current; however companies can’t always provide the training you need to gain these skills and external courses aren’t always affordable.

As a Professional Skills Trainer at the IET, I deliver three hour Lifeskills training workshops, free of charge for anyone in the UK to attend. I deliver these sessions in the evenings in various locations. The workshops are designed by the IET and organised by the IET’s Local Network Organisers across the UK.

Topics range from fundamentals of project management, introduction to management, leading and developing successful teams, communication and assertiveness; to CV writing and taking control of your career. This is to name but a few from our Lifeskills portfolio.

Although the majority of people who attend workshops are IET members, they are open to all allowing us to reach a wider audience and generate more every day examples. I have seen great networking during my workshops and valuable connections can be made.

Delegates are invited to participate in group activities and then discuss their findings and because of this interactive approachthe atmosphere lends itself to a fun and effective learning environment with the added bonus of meeting like-minded people.

In addition to having a qualified IET trainer deliver these courses, you will also receive a free workbook. This ensures that you can take all of the information away with you and refer back to it when you need to.

We also offer a certificate of attendance at the end of the workshop.  This can be used as evidence of the training for your employer and explains how the course can contribute to your CPD hours.

On top of all that, the Local Network organisers provide free refreshments for you to enjoy during the workshop. What more could you ask for?

I know, it seems too good be true, however, I promise you there is no small print!

If you are interested, all you have to do is register on to a Lifeskill event via the IET website.  Further details of upcoming courses can be found on the IET events page.
