Here is a snap shot of all of the activity that the IET Women's Network has produced in the run up to International Women's Day!

Webinars

To celebrate International Women's Day the IET Women's Network has produced a series of four webinars, in the lead up to the day, enabling you to plug in at any time from your desk or from the comfort of your own home!

The topics covered:

Understanding Unconscious Bias

Stereotype Threat

The Art of Ethical Persuasion - Asking for a Payrise

Stand Up! Be Assertive! Confidence Buoilding for Professionals

Event

In addition to the series of webinars that we produced, we also held an event in London to mark the day!

The event covered Understanding Unconscious bias - ''People who are viewed through a stereotypical lens often adapt their behaviour to the stereotype and perform accordingly''.

The facilitator, Greet Brosens, delved further into this phenomenon in order to find out what this could mean for women in engineering.

If you missed the event, please take a look at the appropriate webinar above.

Crusade to Promote a Positive Image of Women in STEM

In honour of International Women's Day 2014, the IET Women's Network would like to invited women engineers to join our crusade to promote women in Science, engineering, technology and maths (STEM). We have several people that contributed to this campaign. View the photo's here

We would like to continue this crusade beyond IWD so, please help to support us in this important mission.

University of Huddersfield Engagement

Speakers: Dr Crinela Pislaru - University of Huddersfield and Mrs Ivonne Sima - General Intelligent Platforms, London

The speakers addressed final year male and female students and described the factors that encouraged them to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM ); What a general day of work looks like; their greatest experiences in industry, challenges and achievements; support from mentoring figures.

They also presented the keys to become successful engineers, habits to grow to be winners in their professional and personal lives and ways to increase the power of persuasion and get on others’ wavelengths to get the message across and create “win-win’ situations.

As the completion of university degree approaches, the students start wondering whether the transition into the workplace or onto other endeavour’s will be a smooth one and the speakers aim to offer some solutions.
