On Wednesday 8 June, London Central hosted David Cash and Julian Storr at Savoy Place, two internet security experts from NCC, to show us 'How to Hack a Bank'!

The speakers navigated through multiple sources of information available in the public domain, together with the Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), to highlight how easy it is to gather personal information using means available to everyone on the internet. We were given real life examples of Physical Device Planting and other methods such as Phishing, attacks on External Infrastructure and Malware execution, which can be used to gain access on the system of a bank, government department and others organisations.

David and Julian summarised most of the threats in a demonstration, where they used access to credentials to compromised windows domain, by taking control and establishing persistence on an victim’s profile. Closing the presentation, our security experts gave advice on defending against malicious attackers, with security control measures that can be implemented at individual and organizational levels.

We received extremely positive feedback on this event, and we will organise a follow up event in the near future.
