3 minute read time.
I would like to apologise for the lack of content these last few weeks. It's been hectic but we're back with our weekly features.

Last week we met Ian. This week I'd like to introduce our new Marketing and Memberships Manager, Matthew Connel. He's an alumnus of the 2017 IET YP Leadership Programme and the team leader of the much-lauded Phone Charge Bike , and the incumbent UWA IET OC Treasurer. He is a Mechanical Engineering student currently studying at UWA. He already has a commerce degree under his belt from Notre Dame. Let's get to know Matt.

Matt joined the IET through the 2017 Leadership Programme thinking it would be a great opportunity to develop his leadership skills, meet people in the industry, and improve his chances of standing out of the crowd. With his time on the Phone Charge Bike, I think Matt has achieved his goal of recognition.

Why did you join the Committee?

The Leadership Program was a great experience, I had a lot of fun working with our team and meeting other like-minded engineering students, I learnt so much that when the opportunity came to join the Young Professionals Committee I was more than happy to apply. I nominated for the role of Marketing and Membership Manager as I believed it would be a great opportunity to continue my involvement in the IET, give back to an organisation that I have benefited from and further develop my soft skills in marketing and management

Dogs or cats (or Ducks? Naked mole rats?)?

What is your guilty pleasure?
Sausage Rolls, for breakfast lunch or dinner, currently consume on average 3-5 a week but trying to cut back.

What is the nerdiest thing you do?
Sausage Rolls, for breakfast lunch or dinner, currently consume on average 3-5 a week but trying to cut back.

If you were a sandwich, what would you be?
Bread and butter, exclusively ate this sandwich every day until year 7 when I added cheese. Always takes me back to the glory days of primary school.

What are your aspirations?
Start my own boat building company, creating niche market boats that are designed to travel at high speeds through rough seas. Less concerned with sustainability and more with things that spit flames out the back.

What would people be surprised to find out about you?
I began my University journey studying a double degree of a Bachelors and Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Notre Dame Fremantle. I didn’t enjoy the Law degree as much as I would have liked and so I finished the Commerce degree, left the Law and made the switch UWA to pursue a Masters of Mechanical Engineering.

What are you a closet fan of?
Gossip Girl, there’s not much I wouldn’t do for Serena van der Woodsen.

Any secret skills?

Undoing rusted bolts, driving an old car has forced me to become very skilled with a grinder.

Who would win, Darth Vader or Gandalf the Grey?
Please refer to Tynan's Post, he just about puts this one to bed.

Is your toilet paper under or over? If under, defend your incorrect position.
Never really taken much notice of it before, to be honest. I will now though.

Thank you Matt! There are still plenty of the new committee to meet so please check back each week for more features. I hope you have enjoyed this post and please leave a like here and on Facebook.
