ESAS 2018 Environmental & Safety Innovation Awards
Sponsored by the IET and IIRSM, the Safety and Environmental Management Awards were a new aspect introduced at the 2016 ESAS conference. This year's awards were presided over by Paul Skinner CBE, Chair of the Defence Equipment & Support Board and a non-executive member of the Defence Board, with the IET presenting the award for ‘Innovation in Safety’ to an individual or team. The competition for the 2018 defence environmental and safety management innovation awards received a high number of submissions and was tough to judge, but the panel agreed unanimously on the winner.
Safety Innovation Category Winner - Sponsored by the IET
Title - Foreign MOTS Stores Certification Tool Set
Winning Team - Frazer-Nash Consultancy and DE&S Airworthiness Team (DAT)
Frazer-Nash in conjunction with the DAT have developed a standardised integrated approach to regulatory compliance and certification for foreign Military off the Shelf (MOTS) stores. The novel approach was developed for the P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft and exploited for the AH-64E Helicopter. The method is being integrated into the DAT's generic airworthiness tool set (ASPIRE); this will help provide a DE&S route map through the various aircraft and stores regulations when needing to use United States stores evidence. This tool kit also improves collaboration and risk understanding across the defence domains.
