Want to help inspire the next generation of Engineers and Technicians? We are looking for some local members to step up and help teams entering this year's First Lego League. The competition is organised in the UK with the support of the IET.

It tests the teams in the following areas:

1.    Robot Game

Teams build a robot using a LEGO kit that they program to autonomously complete a series of missions on a specialised field and to score as many points as possible.

2.    Project

Through the project, teams learn more about the science and engineering behind the challenge theme.

3.    Core Values

While competing, the teams have to demonstrate core values including professionalism, cooperation, encouraging high quality work, kindness, respect and learning.

More details can be found here

We're looking for volunteers to help mentor 5 local teams:

•    Tupton Hall School

•    John Flamsteed Community School

•    Lady Manners

•    Greenhill

•    Brinsworth

We'd like you to be able to attend at least 2 sessions (the more the better!) before the teams head to the regional competition at Sheffield Hallam University on 16th December. However tempting it is to get the chance to play with LEGO again, it's important the students get to do the work, you'll be there to offer guidance and help the teams think like Engineers. Teams usually meet once a week as part of an after school club or at lunch times under supervision from a teacher. We'll work with the you and the school to arrange a time that's convenient for you both.

Whatever you design, organise and make as part of your professional role you'll have something to offer these enthusiastic teams. Plus if you're working towards professional registration it offers you the opportunity to work towards completing that.
