- DIY Faraday Challenge Days The DIY Faraday Challenge Days allow teachers and technicians to run their very own Faraday Challenge Day. Each set of electronic resources takes you through the day with an introductory presentation, handouts, video clips and printable Faraday currency for students to use to buy or hire resources. Why not invite STEM Ambassadors to give you a hand on the day and bring real-life engineering experience into the classroom? We offer our DIY Faraday Challenge Days to both primary and secondary schools. The resources are free to download. The materials you’ll need are found in typical science or design and technology departments. Where universities or colleges do not have IET accredited programmes, IET Local Networks can offer an IET Local Network Prize to reward excellence in students. The prize winner should be nominated on the official form by the academic establishment on the basis of having achieved excellence on a course that falls within the IET’s scope of interest. The value of the award is £250 or an amount with an equivalent purchasing power in other countries. To find out more email communities-support@theiet.org

- IET On Campus student groups are helping us to engineer a better world by inspiring students at universities all around the globe to pursue a career in engineering and technology. They are also encouraging students to engage with the IET throughout their time at university. The IET On Campus Group of the Year Award is our way of recognising and rewarding the On Campus student group that has gone above and beyond the rest between September and April . To qualify for entry for this Award, your group must be recognised by the IET (i.e. the IET has received your application form to become an On Campus student community and holds a formal record of your group). IET Postgraduate Awards – Apply online at www.theiet.org/postgradawards (#IETAchieve)
- Global awards for IET member researchers who have started their PhD or EngD research programme. Postgraduate awards are one-off payments of between £2,500 and £10,000. Awarded for excellence rather than financial need. Awarded on a competitive basis. The application will be assessed by the Scholarships Committee and shortlisted applicants will be called for interview. Deadline is usually early April.
IET Harvey Engineering Research Prize – www.theiet.org/harvey (#IETHarvey)
- The IET Harvey Engineering Research Prize is a global engineering research prize awarded annually to an innovative researcher. Each year one prize of £350,000 is awarded to an exceptional individual researcher, honouring their outstanding achievements and promising future research. Selection process The IET Harvey Prize Committee identifies potential candidates from around the world. The award is given for the furtherance of scientific research in the fields of medical, microwave, laser or radar engineering, rotating over a three-year cycle. The Committee draws up a shortlist of candidates from whom additional information is requested for further detailed consideration. Applications from individuals are not accepted. The Prize Lecture is usually held at IET London: Savoy Place in March. The Lecture is free to attend and is followed by a networking drinks reception.
IET Premium (Best Paper) Awards – www.ietdl.org/premium_awards
- The IET’s dynamic and expanding journals publishing programme now comprises 32 journals, including the internationally renowned Electronics Letters and three new open access journals: High Voltage, IET Cyber-Physical Systems and Engineering Biology (2017). The portfolio covers the entire interdisciplinary field of electronic and electrical engineering and related applications. All of the journals are available online through the IET Digital Library, with many also available in print. A Premium Award is available for the best paper published within the previous two years in each journal. Nominations are made by the journal’s editors and editorial boards, with the winning paper chosen by the journal’s Editor-in-Chief.
IET Travel Awards – Apply online www.ietdl.org/travel-awards from January through December on rolling monthly basis up to GBP500 each
- If you are a member of the IET, we can provide grants to help you present a paper/poster at conferences around the world, or to participate in international research visits or projects. Up to twelve awards of £500 are available throughout the year and, on average, the Scholarships Committee awards two travel grants every second month.

- A global presentation competition for students, apprentices, recent graduates and young professionals aged 18 to 30 years. The IET’s Present Around The World (PATW) is a well-established competition with several heats designed to encourage young engineers and technicians to develop their presentation skills in this fun and friendly environment. Being able to communicate in a confident and efficient manner are essential skills to help you reach both personal and career goals. Interested persons are advised to contact their IET Local Network to %uFB01nd out if they are holding a Local Network competition in any given year. Individual competitors give a 10 minute presentation on a subject related to engineering and technology in front of an audience and panel of judges, followed by a five minute question and answer session. Competitors go through local, national (area) and regional %uFB01nals, before the winners of the regional finals go on to London to present at the prestigious IET Achievement Awards ceremony to compete for a £1,000 cash prize. IET Technician of the Year Award – Nominate online at www.theiet.org/techawards (#IETAchieve) deadline is early May.
- This award is to recognise individuals in technical support roles from the engineering, technology or academic sectors around the world. For this award, we welcome entries from United Kingdom civil servants. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the prestigious IET Achievement Awards ceremony in November. Deadline for applications is usually early May.
Honorary Fellows (HonFIET) – www.theiet.org/membership/types/hon-fiet
- Honorary Fellows are elected by the Board of Trustees to this prestigious membership category. Members of the IET are invited to propose names of individuals to be considered for Honorary Fellowship. Nominees do not have to be IET members.
IET Achievement Medals , Volunteering– Nominate online at www.theiet.org/achievement (#IETAchieve) deadline is early May.
- IET Medal for Volunteering: Awarded to an individual for major and outstanding contributions voluntarily given to furthering the aims of the IET. Open to all individuals who have been engaged in an IET volunteering role for at least one year. A shortlist will be drawn up by the IET Awards and Prizes Committee and the winner will be announced at the Achievement Awards ceremony in November. You do not need to be an IET member to nominate or be nominated. The Medal is awarded without restriction regarding nationality, country of residence or membership of the IET. Deadline is early May.
- Paul Fletcher Medal: Awarded to an outstanding early career professional for outstanding achievement in contributing to the activities of the IET. The nominee must be a member of the IET. The nominator does not have to be a member of the IET. Deadline is early May.
IET Achievement Medals: Young Professionals – Nominate online at www.theiet.org/achievement (#IETAchieve) deadline is early May.
- Global awards for early career professionals, which recognise outstanding work, significant career progress or contributions made to their industry or profession. Other factors can enhance the nomination, e.g. engineering ambassadorial activities or STEM promotion. These awards are by nomination only, not individual application. Deadline is early May.
- Sir Henry Royce Award for Young Professionals: Awarded to an engineering, IT professional or industrial trainee for outstanding achievement over the previous three years of their work in industry or for the profession.
- Career Achievement Award in memory of Mike Sargeant: Awarded to an engineering or IT professional who is judged to have made the most significant progress in their career over more than three years.

- Medals recognise individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the advancement of engineering and technology either through research and development or through their leadership of an enterprise. These awards are by nomination only. IET Achievement Medals
- The IET awards up to nine Achievement Medals each year to individuals who have made major and distinguished contributions in the various sectors of engineering, technology or applied science. This includes:
- the Faraday Medal,
- the Mountbatten Medal,
- the Mensforth Manufacturing Gold Medal and
- the J J Thomson Medal for Electronics.
- Nominations Nominations should provide a concise but complete description of the influence delivered both to society and to the profession by the candidate with reference to their work as engineer, technologist, technical leader, technical manager or academic as appropriate. Throughout the nomination, the awarding Committee looks for evidence of the impact made by the candidate.You do not need to be an IET member to nominate or be nominated. We welcome nominations for women and men from around the world. Deadline is early May.
IET Innovation Awards – Nominate online at www.theiet.org/innovation dealine is early July (#IETia)
- Recognising excellence across the breadth of science, engineering and technology, the free to enter IET Innovation Awards welcome entries from around the world. Each category is independently judged by a panel of engineering experts in that field, and the shortlist is announced each October. Winners will be revealed at a black-tie ceremony and gala dinner to be hosted in London, in November. Our award categories cover a wide range of engineering disciplines, including sustainability, power and energy, cyber security, information technology and transport, to name a few. Once new categories are confirmed, the call for entries in March. The Innovation Awards are open to industrial and academic teams and enterprising individuals, anywhere in the world. Each innovation can be entered in up to three categories, although you can enter as many different innovations as you wish.
IET Young Professionals Global Challenge - https://conferences.theiet.org/global-challenge/
- The YPGC is not held every year but aims to encourage Young Professionals across the globe to address a real world engineering challenge with their diverse academic and technical exposure. The Challenge will focus on the technical feasibility, efficiency and innovation of the proposed solution as well as challenge the marketing skills of participants. Find out more about how you can take part.
- The Global Challenge is organised by the IET Young Professionals Community Committee (YPCC) in association with international disaster relief charity RedR UK, which trains aid workers in the skills they need to respond to disasters effectively.
- The 'challenge' for Young Professionals to solve is a real-world engineering challenge faced by humanitarians working in the field. Representatives of RedR will join the judging panel.
- Who is eligible to take part? The competition is open to students and Young Professionals who are between the ages of 18 to 35 inclusive at the launch of the competition. Team members can be located anywhere in the world and should be made up of three to four members. At least one of your team members needs to be an IET member.
