In February 2023, more than 300 people attended the IET Malaysia Prestigious Lecture & Award Dinner 2022
The Prestige Lecture and Award Dinner (PLAD) is a prominent annual event organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology IET Malaysia Network. It was attended by 300 guests including Yang Berhormat Tuan Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), Charles Hay MVO, British High Commissioner, captains of industry, academics, alongside chairmen and women of Engineering and Technology Institutions.
The ceremony, at Kuala Lumpur’s Aloft Hotel, was opened by a message delivered by the IET’s current President, Professor Bob Cryan.
Up for grabs at this year’s PLAD22 awards were:
- Outstanding Industry Captain
- Award, Industry Excellence Award,
- IET Malaysia Leadership Award (Academic),
- IET Malaysia Leadership Award (Industry),
- IET Malaysia Outstanding Young Woman Engineer Award, and
- IET Malaysia Outstanding Young Professional Award
The PLAD event exists to recognise industry players and individuals within engineering and technology, the sectors which form the main pool of nominations for the main awards.
They go to individuals who have made a significant impact and outstanding contribution in areas such as research and development, innovation, renewable energy and public health. The work should have had a broad and lasting impact on science, engineering, and technology. The more than thirty different winners took away awards in the Platinum, Gold and Silver categories.
The Outstanding Industry Captain Award went to Dato’ Tan Eng Kee
Among the Platinum Award winners were Exabytes Group, Bakau Nag Project PD&T/GPD Petroliam Nasional Berhad, Motorola Solutions Malaysia, and AGMO Holdings Berhad
Just a few of the winners of the Gold Awards were Angkasax Innovatin Sdn. Bhd., Emerging EPC Sdn. Bhd., and FMEFAMAX Engineering (M) Sdn. Bhd.
Some of the Silver Award winners were Lingkail Sdn. Bhd., Smart Rack System Marketing Sdn. Bhd., Wangi Lai Plt and She Empire Sdn. Bhd.
The Prestige Lecture session is one of PLAD's main highlights. This year’s lecture, titled ‘Engineering Education for International Mobility,’ was given by Ir. Academician Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Chuah Hean Teik. In it, he shared his insight, inspiration, and extensive experience gained from his career in the field of Science, Engineering, and Technology. The main message was the importance of students picking up the knowledge, skills and experience to equip them to work both at home and internationally.
PLAD22 Chairman, Lt. Cdr. (Rtd) Ir. Ts. Anizan bin Ali RMN, CEng, MIET, thanked the committees and volunteers that made this flagship event such a success.
