The IET Pub Quiz 2016 was organized by IET Singapore LN. The objective of this event was to provide an opportunity for IET members to acquire interesting and less unknown engineering knowledge. This event had attracted almost 50 members and guests. The venue for the event was at the function room of BeerFest Brewery @Rochester. Under relaxing atmosphere, the members were able to enjoy scrumptious food and beer while brainstorming for the answers.

All attendees were instructed to form groups of 4 to 5 members, and to come up with an amusing and interesting group name which could also add points to their score board.

This quiz was co-organised by special task group: Nicholas Weeks, Robert Cooke, Morgan Mackinnon and Renyou. They took turn to host the event as Quiz Master in different rounds.

There are 8 rounds of quizzes, with creative questions like matching the photo of renowned engineers and scientists with their respective inventions or products. In another round called “First to buzz”, members were given several electronic components to construct a buzzer circuit in shortest possible time.

The most spectacular round was called “50 Engineering Wonders of Singapore” where members were required to replicate Singapore’s iconic engineering structures and building using limited raw materials like newspaper, strings and tapes. To add realism, all groups were also required to write a project proposal with details such as objectives, project schedule, estimated cost and risks assessment. No two groups were allowed to build a same project. Some noticeable projects are Marina Bay Sands, Garden By the Bay, SAR 21 Assault Rifle and Air Smart Mask

The quiz ended with a special question: “Who is the winner of IET Paul Fletcher Award 2016?” which none of the groups could produce the correct answer. The Quiz Master then happily announced that the awardee was Mr Cheng Chia Loon, the Chair of IET Singapore YPS. The announcement was followed by applause and cheers from all attendees.

Finally, the Quiz Masters announced the winners: Weeklinks that scored 55 points, leading its next runner-up by merely 1 point.
