Haji Mohammad Zin bin Haji Salleh, Past Honorary Chairmen of IET Brunei and members of IET and the public. Students from participating schools include from Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Altogether, there were about 200 attendees present in the events.

Delegates for the Asia Pacific Community Volunteer Conference (AP-CVC) 2019 include Alex Taylor, Head of Communities and Events, IET staff members from UK and Hong Kong offices, the Communities Resourcing Committee (CRC), Chair and Representatives from Communities Committee from all regions around the world namely the United Kingdom, South Asia, the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific and Chair and Representatives of local networks in the Asia Pacific region.
In his opening remarks, the Honorary Chairman of the IET Brunei Darussalam Local Network, Lieutenant Colonel (U) Schufin bin Haji Brahim, reiterated the objectives of the Regional Faraday Challenge which is organised by the Young Professional Section (YPS) and volunteers, in which is aimed to introduce to youths the sheer excitement of science, engineering and technology, by giving students the hands on opportunity to research, design and build prototype solutions to genuinely tough engineering problems.
In Brunei, the Faraday Challenge started back in 2015 with St. Andrew’s School. Then on, it became an annual challenge with collaboration with the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre and through the Ministry of Education and saw increased schools participation since. For this Regional Faraday Challenge, the teams will be judged on their teamwork, innovation, problem solving abilities, financial management, quality of work, communication skills or public speaking… among others.”

The 1st Regional Faraday Challenge 2019 were represented by four (4) teams with each team represented by 6 students from:-
- SMK Batu Bintang Secondary School - Malaysia,
- Raffles Girls School - Singapore,
- Carmel Pak U Secondary School - Hong Kong and
- St.George’s School - Brunei Darussalam
During the opening ceremony, the Guest of Honour and audiences also witnessed the Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between The IET United Kingdom and PUJA Brunei. This MOU was first signed back in 2013 and is meant to explore ways in which the two institutions can mutually benefit each other by getting members to share knowledge and engage in each other’s activities. Signing the MoU from the IET was Alex Taylor, Head of Communities and Events UK, Lieutenant Colonel (U) Schufin bin Haji Brahim and from PUJA Brunei, Yang Berhormat Ar. Siti Rozaimeriyanty, President of PUJA (Brunei) and Ir. Haji Mohammad Zin bin Haji Salleh, Head of Engineering Division PUJA (Brunei).
Exchanged of Memorandum of Understanding between The IET UK and PUJA (Brunei)
The IET’s Asia Pacific Community Volunteer Conference (AP CVC) themed “Building a Better Region for Tomorrow” was also held yesterday at Aman Hills Hotel. The conference objectives to better address the needs and concerns of Local Networks (LN) in this region.
- To inform volunteers of the latest developments of the IET.
- To inspire volunteers to share their experiences, best practices and successes and
- To influence volunteers to become engaged with the IET’s overall global outreach.
With this theme and objectives, for this conference we look forward to an open and rich discussion on topics of interest to LNs in the region and around the world.

Following the completion of the 1st Regional Faraday Challenge 2019 and to welcome the delegates for Asia Pacific Community Volunteer Conference (AP-CVC) 2019, dinner was hosted and was held in the evening at Tarindak D’Seni in Bandar Seri Begawan.
During that dinner, the result of the 1st Regional Faraday Challenge 2019 was also announced. Raffles Girls School from Singapore emerged as the winner and brought home a total prize of GBP 400.
