The Manufacturing Technical Network (TN) held its first in-person/hybrid meeting for over 2 years at Savoy Place today. In a lively meeting full of challenge and discussion we finalized details for the remaining 2022 programme of events and started the planning process for 2023.

Upcoming 2022 events include Future Roles In Manufacturing, a series of 3 meetings including an in-person networking opportunity covering Digital Manufacturing and a workshop event looking at the Future for Manufacturing Automation. This latter event is being organised jointly with the Robotics and Control & Automation TNs.

In 2023 we are very excited to be  be supporting an IET Annual Prize for Manufacturing apprentices. We are also planning a series of events covering the following subjects:

  • Sustainability Challenges
  • Enabling Technologies for Manufacturing
  • Future Manufacturing Skills and Careers
  • Manufacturing In Space
  • From Mass Production to Mass Customisation
  • Academic Directions in Manufacturing

Some of these plans are at an early stage and will be developed over coming weeks.

If you are interested in contributing to and/or helping drive our TN activities we have openings for volunteers to join the TN and help reshape and expand the Executive. These opportunities range from simply attending a committee meeting, to bring new ideas to the table, through to organising, running, and promoting  events. • good to hear in person meet-ups are happening again in Savoy place.

  • Great meeting and lovely to finally meet some of you in person! Delighted that we have so many great activities planned for later this year and 2023. Very much looking forward to seeing them come to fruition! Slight smile

  • Great contributions from all the team yesterday. Really looking forward to delivering our planned activities!

  • It was a great meeting with plenty of interesting discussion. I'm still disappointed I couldn't be there in person - next time!

Looking forward to working with the TN over the coming months and years, and welcoming new members as they join. There are plenty of exciting opportunities coming up and so many Manufacturing topics for us to explore.

  • Chris, I'm looking forward to working with the Technical Network next year to explore the skills agenda further. There is already real competition for talent and manufacturing needs a new (and scarce) skill set that we will have to work hard to develop.
