Hello, I’m Julie Hudson and I am a Local Network Manager for the IET. My role is to guide and support a portfolio of local networks in the UK.

Earlier this year I was very pleased to help the Berkshire network organise a professional recognition event. The purpose of this event was to celebrate the achievements of members in Berkshire who had achieved professional registration or fellowship with the IET.

What is professional registration and fellowship?

Professional registration can not only enhance your career, it also demonstrates that you have reached an internationally recognised standard of competence.

There are four categories of Professional Registration; Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, Engineering Technician and ICT Technician and each category follows a variation of the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) or ICTTech – The Standard.

Fellowship is the highest category of membership, awarded by your peers. The Fellows category is made up of engineering and technology professionals from all walks of life. What they have in common is that they have all contributed to the profession in some way; from demonstrating leadership and responsibility, to influence, innovation and beyond.

The event

The event was held on 3 July at the University of Reading and we had a great evening, with presentations given by myself, organiser Arup Dhar, IET CES Ed Almond and IET Trustee Mamta Singhal.

Each delegate received a certificate of recognition and were well and truly made a fuss of! I had some great conversations and heard some truly inspiring stories. I felt very humbled by what our members achieve and was so pleased to have been a part of the evening.

Our delegates

We just had to take photos of our delegates receiving their certificates (and I hope you enjoy all those smiley faces), and here they are:

And no blog would be complete without a photo of the presenters:

Myself, Mamta, Ed, Rui and Arup

It wasn’t just me and the presenters who thought it was a great night – our delegates thought so to…

“The IET Awards Event on a personal note was a source of pride for the recognition of my professional accomplishments. Sharing the evening with likeminded and very distinguished professionals to reflect on present and future engineering challenges was the high point of the event.” - Chinedu Orji

“I thought it was an excellent event, it was really nice to meet others from different industries and at different stages in their careers and to jointly celebrate and recognize the professional milestones/accomplishments of attaining CEng and FIET.  I thought the venue was really good, central and very easy to access by car and the food and drink served were excellent. Thank you so very much for organising this event.” – Keith Norton

So, I hope you join me in congratulating all those members who start on and complete their journey of professional recognition of the knowledge, skills and talents.

  • Thank you for organising this event, Julie. The event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow professionals and celebrate our collective commitment to excellence in engineering and technology.

  • Fantastic     Amazing event.   Well done to all involved and congrats to everyone on their accomplishments
