TV connect 2018 gave the MMC TPN a chance to show those in the Multimedia industries that there is a home for them at the IET. Read on to see how we used this oppurtunity to inspire and inform others. TV Connect 2018 ran over 3 days starting with an IET led workshop day on Content protection and 4k/UHD/high dynamic range by Ian Nock and Graham Turner. This gave attendees the chance to see what IET volunteers do and the expertise that lies within the TPN.

For the Following two days the MMC had an exhibition stand at the TV Connect. With an approximate attendance of 3500 people at the event we were able to talk to alot of people, some of which were members but hadnt heard about the TPN, others that wanted to know more about the IET.

Give aways and brightly colured information helped us to stand out. But most importantly the amount we have to offer as an organisation and as a TPN in terms of networking, knowledge and career support really helped to draw people in. The people we spoke to were able to gain information on registration, CPD and some were also interested in the Student side of the IET. The most interest we had was for the up and coming John Logie Baird Lecture, taking place on the 26th June 2018. Not only were we able to market the event it showed the great contrast in the types of events and activities the TPN get up to, as well as the interesting topic areas that are able to be covered.

Another bonus to attending such events is the networking. Graham Turner was able to secure a spot on the roundtable discussions and invited Ian Nock and Bob Gentry to assist in speaking to people about contenet and consumption technology trends. Sharing knowledge and getting to know peers is one way of raising awareness but networking is by fair one of the most effective ways to not only raise awareness of the IET and Engineering, but benefiting your career through new contacts.

There is also somthing in it for the IET volunteers.Volunteers at this event were also able to listen to the days speakers and talk with people on other stands and see what else was on offer. for the IET, some great collaborations could be formed as well as some new and old enthusastic members ready to support the TPN and thier industry.

Over all this was a successful event to attend and we look forward to planning more. If any one would like advice or to offer any good opportunies of collabortation for the MMC TPN, please email us at communities@theiet.org.
