(Members of NESC meet with the IET TT LN)

On the 2nd July, the National Energy Skills Centre (NESC) met with the IET TT LN to discuss their interest in accrediting their programmes with the IET.

The main focus was for their 4 x apprentice programmes to become recognised by the IET and receive the internationally recognised accreditation.  This was identified as a key component to their being a technical and vocational institution as wel as a component of their strategy in becoming a Polytechnic Institute.

The members of NESC recognised the value of the IET brand in assisting the institution to raise their profile and become a "career choice" for regional students.  It was noted that there was a gap in adequately addressing technologists and this would be met through their supercraftsman, journeyman and technologist levels.

They aptly stressed the importance of producing competent individuals, not merely qualified persons, such that the workforce would be suitable for the specific industries of Trinidad & Tobago as well as the wider Caribbean.  This statement was reinforced through the use of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) through their industry linkages, who continuously review their curriculum to ensure that it meets the requirements in the field.

Other areas of interest were that of individuals becoming members of the IET (through the various routes of membership from student, apprentice, technician, member, etc) as well as the various types of professional registration that NESC members and graduates would qualify; as Chartered Engineer, Chartered Manager, Incorporated Engineer, Engineering Technician and ICT Technician.

Special mention was made to the benefit of haing IPRAs residing in Trinidad, who would be able to guide persons thorugh their specific routes.

NESC thanked the IET TT LN team and provided tokens of appreciation.
