We are a forum where we exchange ideas and experiences for anyone, be they engineers or not, having an interest in engineering. We aim to promote widespread discussion and debate through a programme of talks and visits related to advances and achievements in engineering in the world today.
If you are at all interested in Engineering, then the Norwich Engineering Society is for you! 5 August 2018
Visit "Flying day"
From 10.00am at the Little Snoring Airfield
by McAulley Personnell, McAulley Flying Club
Summary: Another opportunity to Fly in a Light Aircraft over North Norfolk Coast Sunday 5th August 2018
The McAully Flying Group have again agreed to us to having a Flying Day at Little Snoring this year. Arrangements will be as last year with flights normally lasting half an hour. Depending on circumstances on the day it may be possible for groups to arrange for longer flights. The cost for each person will be the same as last year at £15 plus £20 per half hour, payable on the day to the flying group. The event is not profit making and is based on sharing the operating cost of the aircraft with the pilot plus temporary associate membership of the group for insurance purposes.
A full day has again been arranged to reduce the impact of variable weather conditions. People not flying will also be welcome to come and join this social event. To book a flight please call Ray Hannent on 01603 810785 (you can leave a message if not available).
Please reply by Sunday 22rd July to allow us to arrange for the appropriate number of aircraft and pilots to be available. Note that the number of flights available will be limited. Obviously this event depends very much on weather conditions and could be subject to last minute cancellation, in which case the event will take place on Sunday 12th August instead.
Travel to the airfield will be by your own cars and location maps will be sent to those participating. More details of the McAully Flying Group can be found on their website

Talk entitled "Understanding Space and Time-Joint with IET"
19.30 at the Holiday Inn
by Prof. Mick Mehler, University of Birmingham
Summary: Our modern understanding of Space and Time has evolved since Galileo's time from a simple intuitive flat geometry to that of curved spacetime envisaged by Einstein.
This presentation explains how our understanding has evolved through the contributions made by Newton, Maxwell and Einstein. Numerous experimental results are presented, culminating in the detection of gravitational waves in 2016, all of which have been key to placing the theory on a solid foundation. The material is presented chronologically and, although some mathematical content is unavoidable, the presentation aims to explain the principles with a minimum of mathematics to an non-specialist audience.
