The Operating in Future Electromagnetic Environments (OFEME) symposium 2024 (Glasgow, 19-21st November 2024) hosted an IET Antennas and Propagation Technical Network (APTN) Antennas workshop.
OFEME, now in its 5th year, was organised by the EME-Hub (https://emehub.org/) and attracted over 350 UK attendees and over 200 virtual participants from across industry, academia and government. Technical talks included: “The Electromagnetic Environment in a Post Quantum World”, “Secure and Resilient Communications – Building the U.K Ecosystem”, “Future Antennas”, “Space” and “AI-Enhanced Signal Processing, Decision Making and Assurance”. It also held over 20 workshops and supported over 80 poster presentations.
The IET’s APTN workshop entitled: “ How Do You Integrate New Agile Antenna Concepts with Agile Radio Systems and Agile Networks?” built on the APTN’s discussion forum that was held in April 2024 and led by Dr Anil Shukla (APTN - Chair, from QinetiQ) and Dr James Birchall (Electro Technical Ltd). The 90 minute APTN’s OFEME workshop was again led by Anil Shukla and was supported by Dr James Kelly (Queen Mary University of London).
Following an introduction about the work of the IET’s APTN, over 30 workshop attendees discussed topics such as; the need for agile antennas, what types of control signals are needed by agile antennas, what antenna measurement parameters are needed by an intelligent antenna control engine and what should a future antenna connector comprise.
The workshop ended with a summary of the APTN’s 2024 events namely the Propagation discussion schedule for 11th December and, the Networks outline activity plan for 2025 such as: virtual “Lunch and Learn, and Discussion” events, the potential for CAWE-25 and another Antennas and Propagation Colloquium (APC-25).
The IET’ APTN would like to thank the OFEME organisers for our involvement in their event.
