If we are going to inspire, Inform, and influence the global engineering community, it's always good to get the imagination of young minds, and so for the second year in a row we supported the http://vitallinkoc.org/ STEM and Arts Career Showcase held over 3 days at the end of April.

This event is a collaboration of corporate, education, and non-profit sponsors and exhibitors coming together to create an engaging and interactive career exploration experience emphasizing careers in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), and the arts. The showcase, to be held in partnership with OC Fair Imaginology, is focused on providing students with opportunities to explore, discover, and connect to their future careers.

As we wanted to do something different and give the young minds something to touch and have a shockingly good time, we had both a Van De Graaff Generator and a Tesla coil on our stand. Being able to give their friends (and mum and dad) a shock from static electricity, and see their hair stand on end kept the children comng by all day long. While the children were amused, the volunteers could engage with the parents and teachers on how the IET locally can help them.

For those for whom static electricity wasn't enough, all were awed by the magic of a lamp being lit when it was held near the Tesla coil.
