The Ottawa LN held its PATW 2018 first round on February 24th at Carleton UniversityWe had only three entrants attend with others calling off sick on the day. Nevertheless, we had an excellent competition with three very talented entrants that provided our judges with a tough decision as to who had won this Ottawa LN PATW round.

Each presenter gave excellent presentations on their chosen topics:

Amazon Dynamo Database Analysis                                                                                           Rishamdeep Kaur

Using your Heart's ECG signature as an authentication factor to replace passwords                 Mohamed Abdelazez
Refactoring procedures to improve maintainability in software development                              Gurpreet Kaur Saran

Our winner is Mohamed Abdelazez and the runner up Gurpreet Kaur Saran. The PATW event was followed by good social time with all the entrants each of whom showed great interest in what the IET is and does. The winner will go on to the Americas regional final in August to try to move to the next step with a trip to the global IET PATW finals in London in the fall of 2018. The Ottawa Local Network extends hearty good wishes to all entrants and wishes each of them good luck in their studies and academic careers.
