The University of the West Indies Alumni Association Trinidad and Tobago chapter (UWIAATT) extended an invitation to the Trinidad and Tobago Local Network (IET TT LN) to develop a pilot mentorship partnership programme.  This was initiated due to the high demand of engineering students entering the mentorship programme and wanting to be partnered with an engineer.

This pilot programme started with the pairing of two second year Electrcial & Computer Engineering students with myself and based upon the interactions and feedback wtih the students, we will be able to fine tune our approach to mentoring young engineers and strengthen the relationship with the Alumni association.

The opening ceremony on Friday 19th September 2014, attracted an audience of approximately 65 persons, who were mentors, mentees, members of the Alumni executive and interested parties.  We were afforded a main presence within the room and everyone was aware that the IET was participating in the programme.

Mr. Keith Gelleneau, the mentorship programme co-ordinator, highlighted his delight in our involvement and expressed hope that the success of the pilot would result in more engineers volunteering to mentor students.

As their current mentor, it is my hope to be able to encourage and guide these mentees to develop a strong sense of professionalism and ethics in their personal and professional developments and would make use of the exsiting support of the LN and the other IET facilities.
