IET flagship event - Present Around The World Asia (PATW) Pacific Finals 2016 has been successfully held in Sydney on 27th August 2016. There were in total 8 university students and young professionals, who came from Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Taiwan, having already won their local competition.

Present Around The World is the Institution of Engineering and Technology's global competition for Young Professionals and Students within engineering to develop and showcase presentation skills on their innovation ideas and projects on engineering.

 

During the presentations, all national winners took it in turns to present their chosen technical subjects to the audience and a panel of honorable judges: Mr. Paul Furniss, Prof. Eliatharmby Ambikairajah and Mr. Gary Knox. The presentations covered topics ranging from biomedical, acoustic, computational to city design and space exploration. The competition was well received by the participants with a lot of idea exchanges & experience and knowledge sharing amongst presenters, judges and audience during Q&A session.

 

Mr. Yasir Naveed, representative of Hong Kong, was crowned the champion of Present Around The World Asia Pacific Finals 2016, after delivering a fantastic speech on “Multi-Directional Tuned Mass Damped for Railway Noise Control” which focused on rail vibration reduction and slow down the rail corrugation growth.


Second place was awarded to Mr. Amos Heng from Singapore, who presented on the hot topic entitled “Smart Drones: A paradox”. And the third place was awarded to Ms Ayesha Salleh, who presented an inspiring research entitled “Synthetic Blood”

 

Next stage for Yasir is the PATW Global Round which to be held in London on 16th November 2016 to compete against the other regional winners.
