The IET Victoria Present Around The World (PATW) 2013 competition was held on November 22, 2012, at RMIT University in Melbourne.  The event was attended by both IET members and the general public.


 



Event summary



The finalists were each provided an allotted time slot of 10 minutes to present their project followed by a round of questions from the audience and judges. The criteria for the contestants included presentation skills, time management, impressions and impact on audience and clarity in delivery of the material.



Congratulations to Nicholas Venables, who was adjudged to be the winner of the competition and awarded the winner's certificate and a cash prize of $225.  Nicholas will now participate as the Victorian representative in the national Australian Competition to be held in Brisbane in April 2013.





The finalists for the competition (and the title of their presentations) were :



  • Nicholas Venables (Melbourne University) - bionic eye simulation platform


  • Peter Thurgood (RMIT University) - self-assembling, flat polymer structures on the micron scale and its applications in metamaterials


  • Glen Kuhne (Melbourne University) - providing 3D user interface experiences to traditional 2D input/output systems




The panel of judges, who kindly volunteered their time for the competition, was :



  • Mr. Robert Jones (IET Victoria committee member)


  • Ms. Genevieve Beart (the reigning Victorian and Australian winner of the competition in 2012)


  • Mr. Mark Stewart (industry representative from SP Ausnet)
