Our systems engineering courses provide both practical and tangible skills that can be used day-to-day in the design of engineering systems.

We offer two different courses focusing around Systems Engineering; ‘Mastering Requirements using MBSE’ and ‘A Model Based Approach to Systems Engineering’. These courses are both based around the IET book ‘SysML for Systems Engineering: A model-based approach’, with a copy of the book being given to delegates who attend the courses. In addition to this, the authors of the book, Jon Holt and Simon Perry, are also the trainers for this course, meaning you will receive high quality training from the experts in the field.

Below gives a brief outline of the two different courses that we offer at the IET in terms of Systems Engineering:

Mastering Requirements using MBSE:
This two-day course gives an introduction to the world of requirements and, in particular, shows how modelling can help with the capture, analysis, validation and specification of requirements within the workplace. The taught content covers the background, theory and best practice of requirements engineering and management, along with more pragmatic issues, such as implementing a requirements strategy in a real organisation.

Delegates will come away with an understanding that requirements can only be understood and addressed when they are considered in the correct context. During the course they will consider the ‘user requirements’ or ‘customer requirements’ and the impact this can have. This course focuses on the Mastering Requirements aspects of MBSE, whereas the below course is a general introduction to ‘MBSE’.

Our next upcoming Mastering Requirements using MBSE course is on the 7th of November 2017 in London.

A Model Based Approach to Systems Engineering:

During this 3 day course, the concept, modelling and framework will be covered to allow the delegates to come away with an understand of what MBSE is and what its effects could be within their organisation. At the beginning of the course, delegates will be presented with a generic ontology and model that can be used as a starting point by organisations. Throughout the whole three days, this ontology is then built up, enabling the delegate to have the framework and tools needed to implement this correctly in the future whilst considering people, processes and tools.

The course will also discuss the important question of ‘Why MBSE?’, whilst bearing in mind both the benefits and pitfalls of the model allowing delegates to put together a general framework that will help to ensure that all systems are consistent and fit for purpose within the workplace.

The next upcoming Model Based Approach to Systems Engineering course is on the 10th of October 2017 in London.

Both of these courses are aimed at, but not restricted to; engineers, managers, scientists, quality personnel and anybody involved with modelling. No previous experience or knowledge of modelling is required to attend this course.
