Professor Noel Sharkey is Emeritus professor of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, University of Sheffield, Chair of the International Committee for Robot Arms Control and co-director of the Foundation for Responsible Robotics, as well as Head Judge of BBC Robot Wars and an IET Fellow.



Noel lauched his new award for Best Robot Wars Female Role Model at the IET Engineering the Future Festival.



The award, sponsored by Mentorn Scotland and the IET Women's Network and in association with Responsible Robotics, was judged by very well-established individuals; Dr Lucy Rogers (Robot Wars) Dr Myra Wilson (Former Robot Wars judge), Dr Aimee van Wynsberghe (President of Foundation for Responsible Robotics), Angela Scanlon (Robot Wars presenter) and Gemma Chan (actress and robot star of the C4 TV series Humans)




The aim of the award is to encourage more women / girls to enter the profession of engineering and robotics.



The overall winner was announced at the festival.

Huge congratulations to all - you are all winners and inspirational role models and a massive thank you to Professor Sharkey who approached the IET with the concept for his award.



Noel will also have a presence at this years Young Woman Engineer of the Year Award.
