Engineering is for everyone – that’s the message from the organisers of Radio TechCon – the UK radio and audio industry’s technical and engineering event.
The one-day conference takes place on Monday, 28th November 2022 at IET Savoy Place, London.

Full price tickets cost £175 + VAT and now there are two bursary schemes to assist delegates with the costs of attending.
The organisation bursary sees free tickets being given to the Community Media Association, Student Radio Association and Sound Women Network, for these organisations to distribute to their members.

The individual bursary is a free ticket scheme open to anyone who is facing a barrier to attending Radio TechCon. This could be because of financial constraints, or due to being from a group underrepresented in broadcast engineering. Applicants for the individual bursary will also be able to apply for assistance with travel and accommodation, thanks to Lead Travel Fund sponsors, Cleanfeed.

In addition, winners of bursaries from either scheme will also be offered a year’s free membership of The Radio Academy. 20 bursary places will be available in total across the two schemes. All applications are confidential and will be assessed by a panel of industry experts.

“Broadcast engineering is the best part of the Radio industry, and we want to make sure everyone who wishes to attend Radio TechCon has the opportunity,” says Aradhna Tayal, from organisers TBC Media.

Further sessions revealed. In addition to the bursary announcement, the Radio TechCon team has announced three additional sessions:

● 100 years of BBC technology - from the early days of the British Broadcasting Company in its headquarters at the IET (the same building that we use for TechCon) to future predictions - how have BBC engineers shaped broadcast engineering as a whole?

● Material World - Zoe Laughlin runs an interactive session on the acoustic properties of materials. Expect live demos, and dangerous substances. Risk assessment forms are being completed as we speak.

● Defaking news - in an era of fake news and disinformation, how can we ensure audiences know the content we create is genuine? Kate Brightwell from Adobe explains how a new open standard may be part of the answer.
