Congratulations are due to First Lego League team 5525, Raving Robots, whose coach David McQuiggan is an IET member (and SoCal Committee Member), who took first place Champions Award at yesterdays Regional Qualifying tournament in Venice Beach, qualifying for the regional championships on December 14th.

To win the First Lego League Champion's award the team demonstrated excellence and innovation in both the Robot Game and the Research Project while embodying the First Lego League experience by fully embracing and demonstrating the core values required of the competitors.

Their research project is an early warning system for local tsunami risks like strike-slip faulots in the Southern California Continental Borderland and potential landslide scenarios occuring at the Palos Verdes Escarpment, which could cause a 100ft wave to propogate out to Catalina and be reflected back into coastal cities like Manhattan Beach as a 40ft wave. Currently there is no early warning system for potentially affected coastal communities.

Raving Robots also won the third place trophy for Robot Performance scoring the third highest score over three rounds of the Robot Game.

Raving Robots is sponsored by the IET, an operational partner for the First Lego League. The First Lego League is a global science and technology competition with over 250,000 young people taking part each year.
