Most notably, Samuel worked with Western Power Distribution to secure £17m funding for FlexDGrid and £13m for Network Equilibrium, both projects are demonstrating technological advances in UK power systems. Samuel received an IET Innovation Award in 2010 for his PhD - developing an Active Network Management system for renewable generation connections. He is a member of the IET, a Chartered Engineer, and is UK representative for CIGRE’s Study Committee C6 (focusing on Distribution Systems and Dispersed Generation).”

Second speaker update today is Xing Wang:

About the speaker:

Dr. Xing Wang is currently Technology and Product Development Director of centrica’s global Distributed Energy and Power business. Prior to Centrica, Dr. Wang had worked with GE/Alstom for about 15 years, providing solutions for power transmission, distribution, markets, and O&G pipelines operators. He received his Ph.D. on electrical engineering from Brunel University in West London, UK, in 2001.

Synopsis:

With more and more smart sensors deployed in power networks, buildings, factories, homes, etc., the amount of data collected by these sensors are increasing at an exponential speed. Big data itself doesn’t mean much to energy consumers, however, significant value can be abstracted from big data  if it can be processed with proper correlation and analytics. This presentation will discuss centrica’s vision and experiences on how to leverage big data to provide energy insights to consumers, and help them to improve their energy efficiency, operational efficiency, and offer flexibility to system operators.
