Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders indicated that electric car sales have now topped the 10,000 mark in the UK.  As well as government incentives that have cut ownership costs, a key development is the roll-out of a network of superfast chargers at motorway stations.

Over the past year, Ecotricity say they have installed around 170 of these units, covering 90% of the network.  These allow you to charge your car battery up 80% in 20-30 minutes.

The National Trust seem to be installing them at quite a few of their properties and one of the local hospitals in the Manchester area is now offering not one but a choice of two different types of charging points.

Never having seen a Tesla before, I’ve come across two in the last ten days and one of them was an IET volunteer’s pride and joy.
